From October 14 to 18, 12 laboratory technicians from the region will be training at LA2M in Madagascar. On the program? Small equipment maintenance.

Ensuring the longevity of equipment is just as crucial as acquiring it. With this in mind, a regional training course dedicated to the maintenance of small laboratory equipment has been organized. This initiative is supported by the SEGA – One Health network of the Indian Ocean Commission(IOC). Its aim is to ensure that recently acquired tools continue to function optimally. The aim is to ensure that recently acquired tools continue to function optimally, in order to strengthen monitoring and diagnostic capabilities over the long term.

Why this course?

The main objective is to master the maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment. Laboratory equipment is often subjected to intensive use as part of epidemiological surveillance and diagnostic activities. In a context where epidemics can occur at any time, reliable equipment is essential to guarantee a rapid and effective response. This training course is a concrete response to this challenge. The skills acquired by these technicians are not limited to simple preventive maintenance. They also include repair techniques to extend equipment life. This is particularly important, as a breakdown can quickly compromise analysis capabilities.

Crucial knowledge sharing

This training is part of a broader approach to regional capacity building. Trained technicians will not only be responsible for equipment maintenance in their own facilities. They will be able to share their expertise with their colleagues. This will create a multiplier effect, where each technician becomes a key player in the sustainability of health infrastructures.
