The FETP Master’s degree is finally accredited.
This 2-year course in field epidemiology will be supported and coordinated by the SEGA – One Health Network of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC).
It will be supported by the Mauritius Institute of Health (MIH).

In concrete terms, what does this Master’s degree entail?

Like the short version (FETP-Frontline), this training course is based on a One Health approach. It aims to support the Ministries of Health, Agriculture and Environment of the various IOC Member States in epidemiological surveillance, prevention and response to epidemics. This Master is organized as follows:

Frontline modules

Over the course of 4 semesters, learners will navigate between theory (25%) and practice (75%). In addition, 3 internships are planned:

  • epidemiological surveillance & laboratory
  • health watch & research
  • memory
  • and: 1 module for tutored projects within ministries and on issues of regional interest

The 8 theoretical modules, rich in case studies, include a specific module on environmental health.
This Master’s program can be adapted to the needs of countries, particularly in terms of timing.

Who is this training for?

This Master’s program is aimed at health professionals from the Ministries of Health, Livestock and the Environment.
For this first cohort, 18 learners from the region will take part in the training.

About FETP training

The SEGA – One Health network, with support from the Agence Française de Développement and the European Union, offers training in field epidemiology to healthcare professionals in the Indian Ocean region:

  • FETP Advanced: 21 graduates in the region now occupying key positions in government departments
  • FETP-Frontline: 162 certified in the region, 45 in training and 135 soon to be in training [as of March 28, 2024]
  • FETP Master: a first cohort of 18 learners will start this course in 2024.
