A national One Health workshop was held in the Comoros from August 20 to 22, 2024.
Objective: to strengthen intersectoral coordination.

This workshop focused on developing a joint action plan to strengthen coordination between human and animal health.
It enabled :

  • define the common challenges involved in implementing the One Health concept
  • identify possible synergies between sectors, whether in terms of strategies, tools or resources

Punctuated by group work, this workshop encouraged dialogue and collaboration.
Indeed, the 39 participants shared best practices and lessons learned from previous assessments, while developing common strategies for a more effective response to health threats.

What are the priorities?

At the end of the three days of discussions, four themes emerged as priorities:

  1. Coordination
  2. Laboratory
  3. Risk analysis
  4. Joint surveillance, field investigation and response

About this workshop

Two “One Health” workshops were held in 2022 and 2023.  This third workshop, held in 2024, was unique in its format. It followed the“National Bridging Workshop” approach of the World Health Organization and the World Organization for Animal Health. This approach was adapted to the regional context.
In addition, the International Health Regulations (IHR) and Performance of Veterinary Services (PVS) tools were used. The workshop was led by a team from the Indian Ocean Centre for Disease Control and Prevention – One Health (CDC-OH-OI).
CDC-OH-OI coordinates the IOC ‘s SEGA – One Health network, which is supported by theAgence Française de Développement and the European Union.
