On October 18, 2024, 30 new field epidemiologists were certified in Madagascar. This new wave of certification brings to 119 the number of Malagasy professionals trained to identify and manage health threats in the country.
A short training course to build capacity
Over a 13-week period, these 30 healthcare professionals benefited from a short training course: FETP-Frontline One Health. Combining theory and practice, it aims to strengthen health surveillance capacities through :
- data collection in the field
- dataanalysis
- identification of propagation and evolution risks
- the formulation of evidence-based recommendations.
A 4th cohort of field epidemiologists.
This is the fourth training cohort in Madagascar. The first three led to the certification of 89 field epidemiologists. With this new cohort, Madagascar now has 199 certified field epidemiologists. As a reminder, in Madagascar, this crucial training program benefits from the operational support of the Institut National de Santé Publique et Communautaire.
Field epidemiologists at the service of Indianoceania
This training, carried out by the SEGA – One Health Network of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) with the support of AFD and the EU, is part of a broader strategy to ensure health security in the Indian Ocean region. Earlier this month, 22 Comorian health professionals received this certification.
A total of 257 epidemiologists are now ready to intervene throughout the region. These professionals reinforce the region’s rapid response capacity in the face of epidemics.
